Christopher George is the Chairman and CEO of The Made in Britain Trade Centres and has over 20 years of experience of working across Latin America and the Caribbean. He has since been acting as a business consultant providing strategic planning services for companies wishing to relocate abroad, access new markets, manage projects and build supply chains.
Christopher’s involvement with Latin America started with a course in the Spanish language in the Dominican Republic followed by several years working with oil and gas and mining companies across all Latin America.
He has a Bachelor Honours Degree in Law and French from the University of Keele in England.
HUGH OTTEWELL Director
Hugh Ottewell, a former British Army Infantry Officer, initially gained his experience and knowledge of Central and South America by means of a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies.
Throughout his 12 years in the British Army, Hugh developed and honed his skills as a leader and project manager.
He passionately believes that UK manufacturers have the ability to stamp ‘Brand British’ back on the global market and is determined to make the concept of export, or overseas sales, as pain and risk free as possible.
A fluent Spanish speaker with a knowledge of Portuguese, Hugh has developed a wealth of cultural understanding of the Hispano-Luso world.
As a Director at Made in Britain Trade Centres, Hugh is in a unique position to confidently guide clients through the process of accessing new markets, especially in the emerging regions of Central, South America and the Caribbean.
Gilberto Arias, Director
GILBERTO ARIAS Director
A former Ambassador of Panama to the United Kingdom and multilateral diplomat, Gilberto Arias joins the Made in Britain Trade Centres with experience in developing trade links between the UK and Latin America as a region. Well respected in the London diplomatic community, Gilberto comes from a distinguished career in the private sector—before joining the Foreign Service of Panama, Gilberto managed an important media group, and was Director of a banking group, among other directorships. He remains active in international business ventures world-wide and continues to advise countries and companies in Latin America on development policies.
Gilberto comes to the Made in Britain Trade Centres with a wealth of first hand knowledge of the Latin American region and its interests, with the unique perspective of working in the UK for nearly twenty years.
Gilberto read his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, USA, and graduate (M.A.) and post-graduate (Ll.M.) degrees in Law at Cambridge University, England, before practicing in London for ten years on international commercial law.
